POEMS :

GOOD NIGHT AFRICA

Could this season sleep in the silence,

Of the dark alley of agony

When hawks are hovering interminably

In a yawning biosphere

Of hopelessness?

Goaded by the seductive aroma of lies

We gamble, gambol into emptiness

And a benumbing stench of ruin;

Browbeaten into zombies by tsars untamed

In a danse macabre

Of mendacity and bestiality

Cursed or jinxed by primeval gods?

We are marooned in a cocoon of the Lost,

Far into the reaches of poverty, ignorance and disease;

Sapped of strength and robbed of glory

Where then is our hope for the future?

Is it in the midnight pains

Across the choking theatres of conflict:

In Sudan, Zimbabwe, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar…

Where children are kwashiorkored

And their parents tortured and disemboweled?

This mindless drift to armageddon,

Knifes our dream asunder

Gallops to extinct tomorrow,

Humming a déjà vu

Of Noah’s flooding

(uni) verse

 Africa our dream,

Mother of hope:

Should we

continue to

hope?

Or can we now say

Finally Good

 Night

?
