FELLOWSHIP OF ISDL
This is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a doctor by the Society. The award is administered byThe summit, ISDL’s highest policy-making organ and consists of a brooch, a certificate and a plaque. Selection is through nomination and subsequent screening by The Summit and is based on outstanding literary accomplishment of a creative nature. The recipient, who must be a medical doctor (though not necessarily a member of the Society), is free to use the letters FISDL (Fellow of the International society of Doctors in Literature) after his/her name.

JAMES HORTON MEDAL
Instituted in honour of James Africanus Beale Horton, one of the prominent early doctor-writers, this award honours the commitment of the recipient to humanitarian endeavours. It is administered by the James Horton Fund, the charitable funding arm of ISDL charged with the responsibility of providing humanitarian services and vocational training for the creative but physically-challenged as well as the needy and less-privileged members of the society.
A contribution to the James Horton Fund of US $500 as a personal donation, qualifies the individual for this coveted award. A recipient may or may not be a medical doctor or a writer. He/she is entitled to a brooch, a certificate and a plaque and is free to use the letters JHM (James Horton Medalist) after his/her name.

MARTIN AKPAN PRIZE (ISDL FOUNDER’S AWARD)
This prize is in two parts namely: MARTIN AKPAN GOLD AWARD (MAGA) and MARTIN AKPAN SCHOLARSHIP (MAS).The former is awarded to persons (doctors & non-doctors alike) who are committed to the Society’s CATCH-THEM-YOUNG programme for the promotion of creativity and giftedness among nursery, primary and secondary school children as well as medical students. Such students (MARTIN AKPAN SCHOLARS), with identifiable flair and talents in creative endeavours, especially of the literary ilk, are encouraged through scholarships / bursaries and/or other forms of assistance. Contributors of US$500 and above receive the MAGA. The MARTIN AKPAN PRIZE (MAP) is instituted in honour of the Initiator/Founding President of ISDL, Martin Akpan.

ROBIN COOK FELLOWSHIP (RCF); ARCHIBALD CRONIN FELLOWSHIP (ACF) AND CHARLES LEVER FELLOWSHIP (CLF)
These are awarded to writers who have sufficiently demonstrated prolificacy and versatility in creative endeavours. They are instituted in honour of three of the best known prolific doctor-writers of all time. They are highly prestigious awards that admit the recipients into the Hall of Fame of the Society and attract to them national and international courtesies. Selection is through the nomination process and list(s) of nominees forwarded to THE SUMMIT through the national offices of the Society called Chanceries.
