POEMS :

PRIMITIVE DECORATIONS

The boss wants to clinch

That advertised post

In the foreign office

Anchoring his temerity

On his bloated epaulet

Of acquired titles

Across the land

To back up his application

We’ve forwarded to the foreign office

By his instruction

His treasured dossier:

A long string of Alhaji-Chief-Hon(Dr.)…

Now the boss insists

There are other titular credentials

left in the kitty

That must be dispatched forthwith

To enhance his chances

Of selection

We have told the boss, we cannot

forward this second consignment

As the first one has been hurriedly returned

With a warning:

What is needed is a certified resume of laurels

In scholarship and service;

Not a titular mumbo-jumbo

Of primitive decorations
